I am interested in butterflies as a way of understanding the origin and maintenance of phenotypic diversity; particularly with regards to the evolution of polymorphism and the molecular mechanisms underlying phenotypic convergence. I did my undergraduate degree at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, where I mostly studied animal behavior, developmental biology, and ecology; I also spent some time in environmental studies, and helped open a student-run organic cafe. My independent undergraduate research focused on understanding the ecology of jellyfish interactions in a lab environment.
